Alex Kamau heads the Construction and Engineering Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution practice areas at SKC Advocates LLP. He brings over eighteen years of extensive experience in the built environment, having practiced as a Quantity Surveyor on complex, multi-billion-dollar construction and infrastructure projects across Africa. This deep technical and commercial background distinguishes his legal practice, enabling him to deliver pragmatic, risk-aware, and commercially focused advice that is firmly grounded in the realities of project delivery.
Alex routinely advises on construction contracts, project structuring, claims management, dispute avoidance, and the resolution of high-value construction and engineering disputes through arbitration, adjudication, and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. His integrated perspective as both a legal practitioner and built-environment professional allows him to engage effectively with developers, contractors, consultants, financiers, and public sector entities throughout the project lifecycle.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), both on the Arbitration as well as the Construction Adjudication pathways. His academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution from Leeds Beckett University (UK), a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Nairobi, a Bachelor of Arts in Building Economics from the University of Nairobi, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He is a registered Quantity Surveyor with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS) Kenya and a Professional Member of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK). In addition, he is an APMG-certified Public Private Partnerships (PPP) Professional, having successfully completed the Foundation, Preparation, and Execution certification levels.
